Women's Soccer Notch 5 on All-NCAC Team, Led by Patrzyk & Berkowitz

Patrzyk is the NCAC's Offensive Player of the Year and Berkowitz is the NCAC's Newcomer of the Year

CLEVELAND – The first year in the North Coast Athletic Conference was a sweeping success for John Carroll Women's Soccer.

The Blue Streaks finished as the NCAC Champions, winning the regular season title. For the cherry on top, the Blue Streaks won the Tournament Championship, punching a ticket to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

As a result of the success, the Blue Streaks have christened the first year in the league with more hardware.

Most prominently, Emily Patrzyk earned Offensive Player of the Year honors. Additionally, Brooke Berkowitz took home the Newcomer of the Year.

Joining Patrzyk on the All-NCAC First Team are Kathryn Shaffer and Alli Malinky. Madeline Martin notched Second Team distinction. Berkowitz added Third Team status on top of her individual award.

Patrzyk headlines the awards with good reason. The senior forward has enjoyed an excellent career, one that has not gone unrecognized. This season Patrzyk registered 20 points in the form of 8 goals and 4 assists. Through this year's conference tournament, Patrzyk is currently in third place all time in program history in both total points (86) and goals (36). The Twinsburg native was also named the MVP of the NCAC Tournament.

Malinky is no stranger to conference awards, taking home all-conference second team honors the previous two seasons as John Carroll was in the OAC. All season long, the senior midfielder has been a force for the Blue Streaks on both sides of the ball, also earning herself a spot on the All-Tournament team. Malinky has logged 1,545 minutes, third on the team, starting all 19 games.

Everyone who has ever been an athlete has heard the words "Defense wins championships." Shaffer has definitely helped solidify those words throughout her career. This season the senior defender averaged 83.4 minutes per game as a leader of stellar defense on her way to helping the Blue Streaks claim the NCAC title sweep. This is her third career first team all-conference award, adding another award next to her NCAC All-Tournament Team honor.

Behind every great team is a great goalkeeper. And this season Martin was that great netminder. In her third season as the Blue Streaks starting stopper, the junior recorded a conference-best 9 shutouts, two of which were in the NCAC Tournament. Martin has logged a .867 save percentage. Martin has not allowed multiple goals in a game since September 3, John Carroll's third match of the season.

Berkowitz has enjoyed an outstanding opening campaign, one that has garnered attention in the form of conference awards. The rookie from Saint Joseph Academy enters the NCAA postseason with 7 goals, including the lone goal in the NCAC championship that lifted the Blue Streaks past Denison. Berkowitz was also named to the NCAC All-Tournament team and will look to continue her stellar season in the NCAA Tournament.

The Blue Streaks open up the NCAA tournament on Saturday as they travel just north of the Windy City to Lake Forest, Illinois for a matchup with Carleton College at 2:30 pm ET / 1:30 pm CT.
