Men's Track & Field Competes At Akron And Baldwin Wallace For First Last Chance Meets Of The 2025 Campaign
BEREA & AKRON, Ohio – It's that time of the season for the John Carroll Men's Track & Field program as they enter the last chance meets of the 2025 campaign. 

The Blue Streaks returned to Baldwin Wallace University at George Finnie Stadium for the second time this season on Thursday, May 8th and Friday, May 9th for their first last chance meet. 

A small contingent of the throwers traveled to the University of Akron for the Northeast Ohio Open on Thursday, May 8th as well. 

There were several performances that took a step in the right direction, while some athletes ended their seasons for the Blue Streaks.

At the Northeast Ohio Open at the University of Akron, Ben Herczog and Alec Gorman competed in the men's javelin throw. Herczog would place third overall with a mark of 41.58 meters, while Gorman would place fifth overall with a mark of 38.68 meters. 

To get things started at the Harrison Dillard Twilight, in the throwing events, senior Matthew Russo would place seventh overall in the men's discus throw with a mark of 44.68 meters. Sophomore Moose Frombach would place ninth overall with a mark of 41.59 meters to finish in the top 10. 

First year Julius Kimbrough would make a return in the men's high jump, placing sixth overall with a mark of 1.95 meters. 

In the men's 800 meter run, junior Max Grillo would lead the team and finish 13th overall with a time of 1:54.43, followed by his teammate Ian Paul, finishing 17th overall with a time of 1:54.94. Sophomore Chris Whiting would earn a new personal best with a time of 1:56.55. 

The men's 4x100 meter relay of Matteo Taillet, Brody Hanlon, Tim Herczog, and Brendan Root would finish eighth overall with a time of 43.08 seconds. 

Ethan Show recorded a new personal best in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.36 seconds to place 11th overall. Dustin Horner (22.67 seconds), Brody Hanlon (22.70 seconds), and Brendan Root (22.76 seconds) would finish 21st, 22nd, and 23rd overall. 

Running events under the lights would get started soon after. In the men's 3000 meter steeplechase, first year Charlie Payne would place 10th overall with a time of 9:38.77, followed by junior James Johnson placing 11th overall with a time of 9:44.21 to earn a new personal best in the event. 

In the men's 4x400 meter relay, the team of Tyler Gast, Victor Ononogbo, Mick Doyle, and Basheer Alramahi would place third overall with a time of 3:13.18. 

The men's 1500 meter run was an exciting finish as first year Sam Su would run a huge personal best, placing eighth overall with a time of 3:52.17. 

The Blue Streaks will be back for a couple of more last chance meets on the schedule as they will travel to Mount Union and Augustana for the Midwest Twilight Final Qualifier on Wednesday to Thursday, May 14th-15th as they try to qualify several athletes to the national championships at the end of the month.
