Volleyball Fires Past Allegheny in Midweek Matchup

The Blue Streaks' front lines stepped up at key points

MEADVILLE, Pa. – A year ago, John Carroll Volleyball experienced a disappointing loss at home to Allegheny. This time, the Blue Streaks experienced no such letdown.

While John Carroll lost the first set in narrow fashion, 22-25, the Blue Streaks fired off three straight set wins, 25-13, 25-20, 25-19.

With the conquest, JCU evens out at 2-2 on the campaign.

The Gators fired out of the gates strong and after a timeout midway through the first set, Allegheny fired up a 7-3 run to take control with an 18-9 lead. JCU cut the lead to just two, 20-18, but Allegheny called time again to stem the tide. Despite a couple of nice JCU kills late, Allegheny finished things off.

John Carroll's offense roared in response in the second set, with 16 kills to just four for the Gators. Four service aces for JCU, including a pair by Tess Humphrey, helped to set the tone. The Blue Streaks never felt much doubt in a 25-13 conquest.

The Gators opened up a 13-8 advantage to begin the third set before JCU found its footing and tied it at 14, leading to a timeout by the home team. In all, the Blue Streaks roared for a 9-1 run to get in command. Grace Jones provided a pair of key late kills, while Natalie Glowe had a sneaky tap-over that led to an Allegheny error for the final point of a 25-20 victory.

The start of the third set was back-and-forth, with the teams trading jabs to the tune of a 14-all deadlock. JCU soon kickstarted a 7-0 run, leading to an Allegheny timeout with the visitors in control, 21-17. Continued strong play up front by John Carroll ensured the victory, with Natalie Glowe finishing things off with a kill at the end of a lengthy rally.

Hailey Williams topped the team with 15 kills in a strong showing, while adding 13 digs. Natalie Glowe also excelled with 13 kills plus 16 digs. Olivia Mogyordy led the way with 31 digs. Tess Humphrey notched 24 assists while Haley Nicholson tabbed 23.
