Chicone is putting up impressive stats this season

CLEVELAND – One of the best statistical seasons in recent John Carroll Men's Basketball history is not going unnoticed.

The Blue Streaks' star guided the team to a pair of critical North Coast Athletic Conference victories and has been rewarded thusly for his excellence.

Luke Chicone is the NCAC Athlete of the Week for men's basketball.

The Mentor native posted impressive statlines in an 86-69 win over Oberlin and an 89-76 conquest of Denison, both inside the friendly confines of the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.

For starters, Chicone led all scorers with 24 points against the Yeomen. The graduate student poured in 8 assists plus 6 rebounds and 5 steals in an all-around outstanding game.

On Saturday, Chicone didn't score as many points, finishing with 16 on the statsheet. But the guard played the part of distributor quite well. Chicone recorded a whopping 11 assists, plus 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Without a doubt, it was quite the effort by the fifth-year.

On the season, Chicone is leading NCAA Division III in assists with 109, third in the nation in points with 396, and 10th in the country in steals with 48. Chicone's 23.3 points per game lead the NCAC by over 7 ppg and his 6.4 assists per game lead the conference by over 3 apg.

Chicone has now been twice recognized this season as the NCAC Athlete of the Week.
