Chicone is off to a fantastic start this season

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- For the third time, Luke Chicone is amongst the top of the small college basketball's stars.

Chicone has been named to the 2025-2026 Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List.

The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the student-athlete who has the finest overall season in a smaller scope. Small College Basketball presents the award.

The Top 100 Watch Lists consists of the top student-athletes at the NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, USCAA, and NCCAA levels. Chicone is the only North Coast Athletic Conference player on the list, and only one of three student-athletes from Ohio that made the list.

Luke Chicone has been having an outstanding season in University Heights. The former Mentor Cardinal is the team's leading scorer, putting up an impressive average of 23.8 points a game. The 5'11" guard is leading the NCAC in scoring, but is not just an efficient scorer. Chicone leads the NCAC in assists, with an average of 6.1 per game, and in steals, averaging 2.75 per game.

Chicone is a powerhouse in University Heights, currently ranking fourth in single-season history in points per game this season, behind only Hall of Famer George Dalton. Chicone is the current career program leader for assists per game and just four away from passing Pete Moran for sixth in JCU history. Chicone ranks top 10 in a number of other JCU statistical categories including career points per game, career steals, and career steals per game.

Chicone has scored double figures in all but one game this season, reaching 20 points or more in 11 games. A starter for all 16 games, Chicone is shooting 53% overall on the year, including 32% from the 3-point line. He adds 6.1 steals per game and 4.4 rebounds per game, too.

Chicone previously made the Top 100 watch list in 2024 and 2023, making the Top 25 in 2024 and the Top 50 in 2023.
