Women’s Track & Field Takes Part In First Split Squad Weekend, Competing At Baldwin Wallace And Penn State

BEREA, OH & UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – The Blue Streaks headed into their first split squad this past weekend and continued their excellence from last week.

This past Friday, January 30th, the team traveled to Baldwin Wallace University for the Dr. Taraschke Team Challenge, while a small contingent made the trip to Penn State University for the Penn State National Open. 

The women took advantage of the opportunities and were able to secure more conference marks, as well as personal bests.

Kate Balland (55 Meter Dash): 7.60
Dakota Houston (200 Meter Dash): 24.37
Molly Brown (200 Meter Dash): 27.84
Jayda Champer (400 Meter Dash): 1:03.69
Alyssa Vis (800 Meter Run): 2:18.37
Sam Goodnough (800 Meter Run): 2:22.38
Abby Schroff (Mile): 5:05.26
Morgan Dobos (Mile): 5:16.50
Emma Hvizdos (Mile): 5:25.15
Aniela Balog (High Jump): 1.38 (4' 6.25")
Aniela Balog (Long Jump): 5.13 (16' 10")

Dakota would place fourth overall in the 200 meter dash at Penn State and was just .34 seconds from breaking her school record in the event. 

Molly Brown and Jayda Champer both earned new personal bests in their events at Baldwin Wallace. Molly in the 200 meter dash and Jayda in the 400. 

Alyssa continues her progression; this time in the 800 meter run, where she is now ranked second in the conference. Her time converts to 2:16.80 and puts her at 42nd in Division III.

A few personal bests were made in the mile, led by senior Abby Schroff. Her time of 5:02.27 with a conversion puts her at 33rd in the country and second in the NCAC. 

Sophomore Aniela Balog was the highlight for the field events, earning top finishes in both the long and high jump. 

Next up for the Blue Streaks will be another split squad weekend, traveling to the Jud Logan Light Giver Open hosted by Ashland University and the Doug Raymond Invitational hosted by Kent State University on Friday-Saturday, February 6th-7th.
