The Blue Streaks came so close to sending a wrestler to Nationals

TIFFIN, Ohio – John Carroll Women's Wrestling is knocking on the door.

The Blue Streaks very nearly sent a wrestler to the inaugural NCAA Women's Wrestling Championship.

But in a heartbreaker, John Carroll lost a third-place round match, and the NCAA only takes three wrestlers per region per weight class.

However, the Blue Streaks have plenty of reason for optimism. Three JCU grapplers placed at the stacked Region 4 Championships, a nice feat. Addy Crane stood fourth at 103, Taylor MacAdam notched sixth at 103, and Nora Mooney grabbed sixth at 138

Results

Addy Crane (110) started off with a win before falling in the second round. The talented first year battled back, with a pair of pins sending her on to day two.

The Thornville, Ohio native roared for a pin in the consolation final to fight her way into the third-place match. Following the first period in the match for Nationals, Crane stood behind, 6-4. A takedown not long into the second period got her tied. But her opponent tallied a takedown with just 31 seconds left and held on for the spot at Nationals.

Taylor MacAdam (103) dropped her opening match to the three seed and eventual third-place finisher. The first year fought her way back into Nationals contention thanks to two pins. But it was not meant to be on Saturday, as she lost via tech fall and then fall to settle for sixth.

Nora Mooney (138) fired up a pin to start but her momentum stopped three against the eventual runner-up of the weight class. The Fairview Park native won by pin and then a back-and-forth 12-9 decision to advance to the consolation semifinals. But then Mooney lost in back-to-back pins, ending up sixth.

JCU's campaign concludes with high hopes for next year, especially since all three Regionals placers are just first years.
