Chicone has etched his name amongst the greats of JCU Basketball

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Luke Chicone has just created another club of his own in Blue Streak history.

The Mentor native has become the first player to be named an All-American twice by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

After the 2023-24 season, Chicone was named a NABC Second Team All-American. This season after a record breaking campaign, Chicone is now honored as a First Team All-American.

The former Mentor Cardinal posted a historical season, recording career and program highs in points (710), assists (191), and steals (83). The graduate student point guard also pulled down a career high in rebounds (137).

Heading into the NCAA Tournament's Round of 8, Chico is the only player that is Top 10 in the NCAA in total points (5th, 710), assists (4th, 191), steals (5th, 83), assists per game (8th, 6.4), assist to turnover ratio (9th, 3.08), and made field goals (2nd, 266).

After being atop of the North Coast Athletic Conference and NCAA stat leaderboards all season long, Chicone helped guide the Blue Streaks to the #3 seed in the NCAC Tournament and eventually the tournament title, a spot in the NCAA Tournament, and a Round of 64 victory.

Chicone won the NABC District 7 Player of the Year award on Tuesday and garnered First Team All-District recognition.
