Emily Graves Finishes With A Total Of 9 Strikeouts Against Bethany College This Afternoon
Box Score 1 UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – Bracken Field hosted softball for the first time in 2026 on Thursday.

John Carroll Softball (7-4) hosted Bethany College (12-3) in the final non-conference tuneup before starting off life in the new conference.

A pitchers' duel ensued in the home opener, with the Bison holding off the Blue Streaks, 1-0. The second game was called due to impending weather.

Game 1
The Bison began the game with a single, and an RBI gapper double got a run on the board in the first frame.

It turned out to be all that Bethany would need.

While Emily Graves looked outstanding in the circle much of the game, so did Bethany's Trinity Edge. Elizabeth Hohlefelder tabbed JCU's first hit in the fourth and Bella Hunter walked, but Edge stranded both.

In the sixth, Izzy Coode singled to right center before Jordan Anderson and Melissa Smith took walks. But the Blue Streaks left the bases loaded in a tough missed opportunity. Bella Carcioppolo tabbed a 2-out single in the seventh, but Edge bore down.

On the bright side, Emily Graves finished with a career-high nine strikeouts in her first-ever collegiate complete game.

Game 2
Kristin Dems looked good in the first inning, rolling through her first ups. JCU managed to sneak ahead, 1-0, before the game was called due to lightning.

John Carroll will head to Kenyon College this weekend, opening North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
