Women's Tennis Declaws DePauw for First NCAC Tournament Win

The Blue Streaks won the quarterfinal match with relative ease

GAMBIER, Ohio – A nice piece of history was made on Friday afternoon by John Carroll Women's Tennis.

The Blue Streaks notched the program's first North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament victory.

JCU did it in style, too, sweeping the #6 seed DePauw Tigers. The #3 seed Blue Streaks cruised at Kenyon College's Jasper Tennis Center in the NCAC Tournament Quarterfinal.

The reward is a tall test on Saturday. JCU will look to upset the #2 seed and #21 nationally ranked Denison University on Saturday afternoon.

Doubles action proved to be a battle. Madi Davila and Emma Smith worked hard for the #3 doubles match, earning a 6-3 win. But JCU dropped the #1 singles contest, leaving it up to Morgan Dobos and Felicity Kolb. The stars did not disappoint, firing up a 6-3 win.

Evelyn Deren made up for the doubles defeat by rolling atop the singles lineup. The Michigander conquered her foe easily, 6-2, 6-0.

Dobos then dominated her #3 singles bout, 6-2, 6-2 to send the Tigers to the bring.

Maddie Kavenagh provided the match-clinching victory. The junior (set to graduate a year early) rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at the #2 flight to seal the deal.
