Blue Streaks Kick Off NCAC Play with Dominant Victory at OWU

Tyler Green and the offense rolled past the Battling Bishops

DELAWARE, Ohio – The start of North Coast Athletic Conference play offered the opportunity to make a statement and set the tone for league play for John Carroll Football.

The Blue Streaks did just that, dominating Ohio Wesleyan University from start to finish on Saturday afternoon.

John Carroll rolled for a 44-7 victory at Selby Stadium in central Ohio to advance to 2-0 on the year.

The first offensive play from scrimmage set the stage for what would be a dominant effort for the Blue Streaks. Nico McBride got wide open on a fly route, good for a 70-yard catch-and-run to begin the ballgame. A couple plays later, Cohen Klimak dashed around the right edge thanks to nice blocking by the offensive line and Evan Nelson for a 5-yard score.

Klimak continued where he left off last week, catching a 14-yard touchdown from Tyler Green on the next drive. The sophomore beat zone coverage with a great catch on a wheel route.

In the second quarter, the Blue Streaks got the ball early and used five minutes to march down the field. This time, it was Shane Lindstrom finishing off the drive. The shifty senior caught a short pass and soon shook a defender, racing to the pylon for six. On the ensuing drive, Greg Roman Jr. made a leaping drive on the first play, returning it 22 yards to the OWU 27-yard line. Colin Schuler soon converted a 26-yard field goal to make the score 24-0.

With time winding down in the half, Dorian Facen Jr took advantage of a busted coverage. With no one around him, the senior caught a wide-open touchdown to set the score at 31-0 at the break.

In the third quarter, the Blue Streaks finished off the Battling Bishops. Klimak punched it in on fourth down from the 1-yard line for a 37-0 lead. JCU's backups soon checked into the game.

The Blue Streaks managed one more score in the fourth quarter. Bryce Tubin lofted his first collegiate touchdown pass to Jack McDaniels, as the senior confused the OWU secondary and caught a wide-open touchdown for a 44-0 lead. The hosts broke the shutout late, but it didn't matter.

Klimak tallied 3 TDs and a team-best 73 rushing yards on 17 carries. Tyler Green looked great at QB, completing 19-of-26 passes for 287 yards and 3 touchdowns. McBride and Lindstrom were his favorite targets, both surpassing 90 yards.

On defense, Tommy Tartabini was everywhere, leading the team with 11 tackles. Ivory Travers led the defensive line with 5 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. A total of 27 Blue Streaks had a hand in a tackle, showing how many players saw time and how many Blue Streaks helped to shut down OWU. The Battling Bishops completed just 7 passes for 105 yards, and converted on just 1 of 10 third downs.
