Crosstown Clash Goes Way Of Visitors As JCU Women's Basketball Winning Streak Halted

Lana Kiko started the second half with a made three-pointer against Baldwin-Wallace

Box Score

John Carroll did not miss its leading scorer in a pair of wins last week.

Tonight against Baldwin-Wallace, however, it was a different story. The absence of Lee Jennings (Stow, OH, Stow) and her 17 points per game was felt in a 67-52 loss by John Carroll to its crosstown rival in an Ohio Athletic Conference match-up Wednesday evening at the DeCarlo Varsity Center.

The two teams played even over the first eight minutes. When Laura Gruber (Minster, OH, Minster)drained a short jumper in the lane with 11:58 to play in the opening half, she brought John Carroll back into a 15-15 tie with the Yellow Jackets.

It would never be that close again. Baldwin-Wallace would rip off a 14-0 run, and then an 8-0 run sandwiched around a Rachael Price (Johnstown, PA, Bishop McCort) free throw. John Carroll went over ten minutes without a field goal, not ending the drought until Price drained a short jumper with 1:21 left in the half.

During that stretch, JCU missed 15 consecutive shots and turned the ball over seven times. In the meantime, Baldwin-Wallace's Amanda Schroeder scored nine of her 11 first-half points while the Blue Streaks' offense languished.

Baldwin-Wallace would take a 41-21 lead into the locker room.

Lana Kiko (Dalton, OH, Dalton) started off a stretch where John Carroll's first six made baskets of the second half were three-pointers, but even that would not help the Blue Streaks get any closer than 12 points in the second half as their five-game winning streak came to an end.

Baldwin-Wallace (10-5, 5-3 OAC) was paced by 15 points from Schroeder and a massive 14-point, 15-rebound double-double from Ariel Brough. The Yellow Jackets used a 49-35 rebound advantage to help stretch their season-long winning streak to six games.

John Carroll (9-5, 4-3 OAC) was led by Price, who had one of her best performances to date, going 4-5 from three point land and tallying a game-high 17 total points. As a team, the Blue Streaks made just 19-62 (.306) from the field for the game.
