John Carroll University's struggles from long range led to a long night against Case Western Reserve University as the Blue Streaks dropped a 71-54 decision Friday in the first round of the UAA-OAC Challenge held on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Blue Streaks hit six three-pointers in a season-opening win over Wooster Monday, but against the Spartans tonight, JCU managed just one successful shot in 15 attempts from beyond the arc.
Case led by as many as 12 points on two occasions in the opening half, but te Blue Streaks would mount a rally. Down 27-15 with 8:37 remaining, John Carroll embarked on a 16-3 run that was capped by a
Sadie Zander (Vermillion, OH, Vermillion) jumper in the paint with 1:36 left to play in the period.
The score would end up tied at 33-33 by the time the clock reached all zeroes.
The second half would be all Spartans, however, as they scored 18 of the first 24 points and never looked back.
Case Reserve (1-1) was led by a game-high 24 points from Erin Hollinger, while Caitlin Henry added 15 and Ashleigh Tondo contributed 13.
John Carroll (1-1) was paced by 14 points from
Lee Jennings (Stow, OH, Stow) and a game-high 14 rebounds from
Katie Knox (North Olmsted, OH, Magnificat).
