Lee Jennings and the rest of the Blue Streaks had to hold on for a victory against Heidelberg

John Carroll scored the first six points of overtime and never looked back to post a hard-fought 77-66 victory over visiting Heidelberg University in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest Wednesday evening at the DeCarlo Varsity Center.
The Blue Streaks had to go the extra five minutes when Heidelberg overcame a seven-point deficit in the final 67 seconds of the game, capped by a Morgan Harrigan three-point field goal with six seconds remaining in regulation.

Heidelberg was down down 57-51 with 1:07 left, and still trailed 58-53 with 22 seconds remaining, but used back-to-back three pointers by Brittany Skolnicki and Harrigan -- sandwiched around a Price free throw -- to force the extra period.
JCU assumed control in the overtime period.
Caitlin Sureck (Medina, OH, Walsh Jesuit) made a jumper at 4:06,
Lee Jennings (Stow, OH, Stow) made two free throws at 3:35, and Sureck scored again on a lay-up set up by a
Sadie Zander (Vermillion, OH, Vermillion) steal at the 3:22 gave the Streaks a 65-59 advantage.
The 'Berg cut it down to 65-62, with 2:39 remaining, but John Carroll scored 12 of the final 16 points to win their third consecutive game.
The Blue Streaks trailed early, 5-4, but started to come alive behind a strong offensive effort. When
Lana Kiko (Dalton, OH, Dalton) drained a jumper with 8:03 to play in the opening period, she staked JCU to a 23-13 lead.
But after starting out the half by making nine of their first 17 shots from the floor, the Blue Streaks went ice cold over the final eight minutes, missing 11 of their final 12 field goal attempts.
That cold spell allowed the 'Berg to climb back into the contest. as JCU led by a 28-25 score when the first half clock expired. Led by Morgan Harrigan's five points, Heidelberg closed the period on a 12-3 run.
JCU tried to shake Heidelberg in the second half, and opened up a 12-point advantage when CJ Graham drained a jumper with 9:46 remaining to put the home team ahead 46-34.
But the 'Berg would not go quietly. Over the next 6:04, Heidelberg would go on a 17-7 run, capped by Jenny Miller's lay-up that cut John Carroll's lead to 53-51 with 3:42 remaining.
The Blue Streaks responded with a consecutive baskets by
Erin Zahariev (Hamburg, NY, Hamburg) and
Rachael Price (Johnstown, PA, Bishop McCort) to boost the lead to six, and still led 58-51 with 1:07 remaining when the 'Berg made its final push.
John Carroll (12-10, 7-8 OAC) was paced by Sureck's double-double of 19 points and a game-high ten rebounds. Fellow starters Jennings (14) and Price (12) also reached double figures, while
Whitney Hamilton (Akron, OH, Barberton) came off the bench to toss in 11 points. The Blue Streaks won the rebounding battle, 58-47.
Heidelberg (6-16, 3-12 OAC) was led by a game-high 20 points from Skolnicki, with 15 of those markers coming in the second half. Harrigan added 13 and Miller contributed 11 for the 'Berg.
