Blue Streaks Continue Recent Surge Upward With Convincing Road Win Over Pioneers

John Carroll broke away early from Marietta and kept right on rolling toward an 89-62 victory that marked the Blue Streaks' fourth consecutive win.

Marietta held an early 9-8 lead following an Amanda Carraher three-point field goal with 15:38 showing on the first half clock. The Streaks then put together a 14-0 run, jump started by back-to-back buckets by Rachael Price, one of which was a three-pointer.

The Blue Streaks lead was at 11 points (28-17) with just under eight minutes to play when John Carroll essentially ran away from the Pioneers. Closing the half on a 23-5 run, the Streaks were able to take a 52-23 advantage into the locker room.

There would be little drama in the second half, as JCU opened the period with three consecutive fast break lay-ups -- two by Whitney hamilton and one by Lee Jennings. John Carroll led by as many as 37 points before settling on the 27-point final margin.

John Carroll (13-10, 8-8 OAC) had two players in double figures and eleven in all record their names in the scoring column. Erin Zahariev led the way with 14 while Whitney Hamilton added 12, and the two were a combined 12-15 from the field. For the game, the Blue Streaks shot 36-70 (.514) from the field.

Marietta (2-21, 0-16 OAC) was led by a game-high 20 points from Carraher, while Rachel Jones and Chelsea Drake added 17 and 13 points, respectively.
