Dan Mizener Named OAC Wrestler of The Week

Dan Mizener picked up the first OAC Wrestler of the Week award of his career Monday

For the first time in his career, John Carroll senior Daniel Mizener was slected as the Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week by the league office.

Mizener helped John Carroll earn a fifth-place showing at the 2009 Pete Willson Invitational, which was held this past weekend at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. Individually, Mizener finished fourth at the 149-pound weight class. He went 5-2 in his seven matches, with both losses occuring in overtime to the same wrestler, Jason Fitzenreider of North Central (ranked #8 in Division III). Among his five wins were two technical falls, a major decision over the #7 seed and a pin of #4 seed Drew Gardella of Case Reserve.

Earlier in the week, Mizener was one of the wrestlers to post a win for John Carroll in a 27-12 loss to Heidelberg in an OAC dual meet. He scored John Carroll's first three points that night thanks to a 7-4 victory over Josh Levy at 149 pounds.

Mizener, who now has a team-leading 28 victories on the year, is the fourth Blue Streak to win the award this year, joining Adam Kriwinsky (Nov. 17), Jim Nemunaitis (Dec. 1) and Clarence Semple (Jan. 5).
