Box Score

In a season where streaks have been commonplace, the John Carroll women's basketball team appears to be back on the winning track following a 61-50 road victory at Ohio Northern Saturday in Ada, Ohio.

The victory was the second in a row for JCU, which is now two wins removed from its season-long six-game winning streak and is back over .500 with regard to its overall record.

The Blue Streaks held an early 6-2 lead over Ohio Northern, but the Polar Bears would come back and take a 10-8 lead of its own thanks to a pair of Alisha Rinehart free throws with 12:18 left in the opening half.

John Carroll, however, would score the next seven points and never trailed again.

The visiting Streaks still led 27-20 to start the second half, but Ohio northern would cut the John Carroll lead down to a single point on two occasions -- the second of those after two Rinehart free throws made the score 30-29 at the 14:53 mark.

The margin of the game was still two points with just under 13 points remaining in regulation when John Carroll began to pull away. Keyed by six points from Laura Gruber, John Carroll went on a 13-4 run. Erin Zahariev's jumper with 8:46 showing on the second half clock gave JCU its first double digit lead of the contest at 47-37.

JCU led by as many as 14 points before settling on the final 11-point margin.

John Carroll (11-10, 6-8 OAC) was led by 16 points from Gruber, who had her best scoring game since December 6 against Otterbein. Gruber was 8-14 from the field and also contributed six rebounds. Lee Jennings added 10 points and four assists as the only other Blue Streak in double figures.

Ohio Northern (8-13, 6-8 OAC) was paced by Reinhart -- the reigning OAC Player of the Week -- who was a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line but managed to make just four of her 17 attempts from the field as part of her game-high 18 points. Erica Schoenberger added 12 points from the Polar Bears, who were 1-11 (.091) from three-point range.
