Heidi Mervar and the Blue Streaks had a long 40 minutes on court with the DePauw Tigers
The general consensus in basketball circles is that early misses should not discourage teams from attempting three-point shots. The thought is that eventually the shots will start to drop.
For the John Carroll women's basketball team in the championship game of the 2010 Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament, they never did.
Not once. In 16 attempts.
For that reason and many others, host and #11 ranked DePauw University had little issue today in rolling to an 85-47 victory over the Blue Streaks Wednesday afternoon in Greencastle, Indiana.

Lee Jennings (Stow, OH, Stow-Monroe Falls) and
Emilee Ritchie (Stow, OH, Stow - Monroe Falls ) earned all-tournament honors from the JCU roster, but it was little consolation on a day where nothing seemingly went right for the Blue Streaks.
The opening three minutes featured three ties, the last of which was a Jennings jumper at the 17:03 mark that knotted the score at 8-8. But DePauw embarked on a 13-2 run over the next four minutes and John Carroll was never able to join the chase. The Tigers led by a 44-26 score at the break.
If there was any chance of a John Carroll rally in the second, it was doused midway through. Already down 54-33, the Blue Streaks went seven minutes without scoring. In the meantime, DePauw rattled off 17 unanswered points.
DePauw (9-2) was led by 14 points from Lauren Goff as the Tigers shot 33-70 (.471) from the field, including 15-28 (.536) in the second half.
John Carroll (7-4) had just one player -- Ritchie (15 points) -- in double figures.
