Regular Season Ends On Sour Note For Streaks

Whitney Hamilton did her part to keep the Blue Streaks in a battle with the Polar Bears
When two of your final three games come against contenders for the conference title, things are bound to go a bit haywire.

The Blue Streaks fell victim to the plight of the tough OAC schedule late as they fell on the road to the Ohio Northern Polar Bears, 73-68.

Box Score

John Carroll started the game off slow as they only managed to shoot 8-30 from the field in the first half. Luckily for the Streaks, the Polar Bears had much of the same fortune, barely cracking 30% from the field, hitting on 10 of 32 attempts in the first.

Although the Polar Bears were struggling from the floor, they managed to post a 29-19 lead to close out the half. The ten-point lead marked the biggest of the game for the ONU.

JCU came out of the half on fire as they used a 19-5 run to gain a 38-34 lead with just under 15 minutes left to play. Seniors Caitlin Sureck and Whitney Hamilton combined for 11 points on the run as the Polar Bears couldn't seem to find an answer for the combo.

ONU fired back minutes later and retook control of the ballgame as freshman Morgan Dumbaugh managed eight points in a span of 2:19.

Even though the Streaks were setting the nets ablaze in the second half, shooting .537%, the Polar Bears also followed suit as they improved their accuracy from the first half to the second, netting .471%.

With 2:48 remaining in the second half, the opportunity to win on the road against the fifth place Polar Bears vanished as ONU's Jeanne Bockey closed the door on the Blue Streaks. Bockey scored four points in the final minutes to seal the Streaks fate.

The Blue Streaks were unable to reach the stripe enough as they only managed to make two of five from the free-throw line, where as the Polar Bears managed to hit 14 of 18.

Ohio Northern (15-10, 10-8 OAC) was paced by Bockey and Dumbaugh who each netted 22 points. Bockey's 22 point effort tie a career-high.

John Carroll (11-13, 8-10 OAC) was led by Sureck who scored 22 points on 11-20 shooting from the floor, in addition to nine boards and three blocks. Hamilton also figured into the scoring with 18 points on 4 of 10 from three-point range.

Althought she didn't lead the Streaks in scoring, Lee Jennings would not be silenced as she narrowly missed a triple-double with a 14-point, nine-rebound and eight-assist effort on the day.
