John Carroll finished the 23rd annual Budd Whitehill Duals with a record of 2-2, with its only two losses coming against a pair of top 15 ranked opponents.

JCU began the weekend facing second seeded and #15 ranked College of New Jersey. Alex Garred (Willoughby, OH, Willoughby South) was the lone winner on the mat for the Blue Streaks in a 29-15 loss to the Lions. The College of New Jersey advanced to the finals.

In the consolation bracket, the Blue Streaks were able to rebound with a 40-7 win over RIT. John Cobos (Avon Lake, OH, Lakewood St. Edward) (125) and Will Porter (Willoughby, OH, Willoughby South ) (285) scored pins, while Ken Locsei (Willoughby, OH, South) picked up a technical fall at 149.

JCU concluded action on Friday with a hard-fought 18-17 win over Thiel. Both teams won five matches, with the difference being a Cobos pin at 125 outweighing a pair of major decisions by the Tomcats.

York College, the #1 seed and ranked 12th in the nation, would end John Carroll's tournament run. Upset in the championship bracket quarterfinals, York fell into JCU's consolation draw and handed the Blue Streaks a 25-16 loss. John Carroll battled well by winning four of the nine matches contested, including a pin by Vinny Pizzuli (North Olmsted, OH, Lakewood St. Edward) at 157, but a forfeit at 197 proved too difficult to overcome.

JCU is now 3-4 on the season.
