Box Score John Carroll came all the way back Wednesday night at Horsburgh Gymnasium, only to have the host Case Reserve Spartans turn the Streaks away at the final horn.

A three-pointer at the buzzer by Brooke Orcutt handed the home team a 57-54 victory and nullified a JCU rally from ten points down in the second half.

JCU began the game on a 9-4 run, and had the lead for the majority of the first ten minutes of the night before Case stormed back.

Allison Lustig drained a three with exactly five minutes left in the period to knot the score at 18-18, but the Spartans used a 7-2 burst over the next three minutes to build the momentum needed to take a 26-23 advantage into the halftime break.

Case continued to stretch its lead, and when Berit Eppard split a pair of free throws at the 12:38 mark, the host squad held a 40-30 edge -- its largest of the contest.

John Carroll used a cold spell by the Spartans to climb back into the game. While Case went 1-7 and turned the ball over seven times over a seven-minute stretch, JCU pulled to within two points at 42-40 on an Emilee Ritchie lay-up just inside six minutes remaining.

The Blue Streaks would tie the score on four occasions down the stretch but could never pull ahead of the Spartans. The last of those four occurences was at 54-54 when Beth Switzler dropped in a lay-up with 14 ticks left in regulation.

Case would call a time out to set up what would be the game winning shot from Orcutt.

Ritchie led the way for John Carroll (3-2) with 18 points. Missy Spahar dropped in 12 points as the Streaks had a modest two-game winning streak snapped.

Evy Iacano and Erin Hollinger tallied 14 and 13 points, respectively, for the Spartans, who improved to 4-3.
