Box Score After starting the 2011-12 season off by winning three of their first five games, it seemed as if the John Carroll University women's basketball team was starting to “click.”
An afternoon spent against the Capital Crusaders defense has put a temporary halt to the clicking.
In what was the Blue Streaks' first Ohio Athletic Conference matchup of the season, JCU struggled from start to finish, losing to the OAC rival Capital Crusaders by a score of 71-39.

The issue is never in doubt, as Capital began the game by jumping out to an impressive 20-2 lead. Trailing by an eighteen point deficit less than eight minutes into the game, the Blue Streaks couldn't regroup and recover in time to close the deficit against Capital as the score at halftime stood at 35-15.
In the second half of action, the theme remained the same for the Blue Streaks, who struggled shooting from the field throughout the entire game. A combination of solid defense by the Crusaders and poor shooting by the Blue Streaks helped contribute to the offensive struggles that JCU dealt with all day.
JCU only made 13 shots from the floor against Capital, making 13 of 56 shots for a lowly shooting mark of 23.2% from the field. The Blue Streaks also couldn't dial in from deep, as they missed 23 of their 27 shots from three point territory on the day. JCU's shooting woes also contributed to helping the Crusaders in terms of rebounding as Capital pulled down 53 rebounds on the day compared to JCU's mark of 32.
"Our field-goal percentage was horrible," said Blue Streaks sophomore point-guard
Allie Lustig. "Our shots weren't falling today [and] we weren't getting open."
With an even record of 3-3 now on the young season, the Blue Streaks will attempt to bounce back from the disappointing loss on Wednesday, December 7th when they will play host to the defending OAC champion University of Mount Union Purple Raiders at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.
