Shooting Percentage Goes South As Blue Streaks Suffer Road Defeat To Marietta

Beth Switzler (#15) had six points and eight rebounds for the Blue Streaks.
Box Score On the banks of the Ohio River, the John Carroll women's basketball team saw its two-game winning streak drift downstream in a 84-69 loss to Marietta College.

After shooting a season-best 50.9 percent from the floor against Muskingum Wednesday night, the Blue Streaks connected on just 35 percent (25-of-71) of their field goals, including 3-of-20 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Missy Spahar scored 18 points and pulled in eight rebounds, but the Blue & Gold trailed, 38-25, at the half and were never able to reduce the lead to single digits after intermission.

Led by Aleisha Guiler (16 points, 10 rebounds), Marietta turned a 12-11 edge with 12:01 remaining into a 20-11 advantage with an 8-0 run.  John Carroll cut the lead to 23-17 at the 5:10 mark, but a 6-0 spurt to finish the half gave the Pioneers all the breathing room they would need.

Hilary Liwosz had 17 points and nine boards as the Streaks slipped to 6-8, 3-5 in the OAC.  Marietta improved to 9-7, 4-5 in league play.

John Carroll will host Capital University next Saturday, January 21 at 3:00 p.m. in its next hoops action.
