Basketball can often be a tale of two halves. Such was the case Saturday as a promising first act by the John Carroll, Blue Streaks in Ada was followed by a terror-filled second against the host Ohio Northern Polar Bears
John Carroll dropped its fourth consecutive contest by a 63-46 score to Ohio Northern.

With the loss and a Muskingum victory over Heidelberg Saturday afternoon, the Blue Streaks fall into a tie with the Fighting Muskies for eighth place in the OAC.  Eighth place is the lowest a team can finish in order to qualify for the postseason OAC tournament.

The Blue Streaks (6-12, 3-9 OAC) were paced by sophomore Missy Spahar who had a team-high 20 points and five rebounds.

As a team the Blue Streaks remained competitive throughout the first half only trailing by five going into halftime.

The Polar Bears would however come out of the second half gates with a vengeance going on an 11-2 run in the first four minutes of the half. The Polar Bears would push their lead up to as many as 26 thanks in large part to holding JCU to just 13 points in the first 13-plus minutes of the second half.

Ohio Northern (16-3, 10-2 OAC) was led offensively by Morgan Dumbaugh who had a game-high 22 points.

Cenzie Yoder and Kara Dysert each hit double-figures in rebounding combining for 23 total boards.  Ohio Northern outrebounded the Blue Streaks, 45-32.

Spahar aside, there was no other offensive spark from the Blue Streaks roster today. The Streaks shot less than 30 percent from the floor and only 20 percent from the land of three.

On the positive side, the Streaks came through at the charity stripe,  only missing one free throw out of 15 attempts.
