The John Carroll women's basketball team went down to the wire with Allegheny College Saturday night, needing extra time to put away the Lions with a 67-65 overtime victory to win the 2012 Allegheny Greg Richards Memorial Tip-Off Tournament.

For the second time in three years, the Blue Streaks begin the season 2-0, but getting past Allegheny was far from easy.

After leading for much ofthe first half, JCU allowed the Lions to score the final four points to a 22-20 advantage into the locker room.  Allegheny controlled much of the second half, holding a 45-37 lead with under nine minutes to play, before junior forward Missy Spahar ignited an 8-0 surge to tie the game.

A 3-pointer and three free throws from Allie Lustig in the extra period helped the Blue & Gold seal the win and the tournament title.

Spahar, who was named the tournament MVP, led all scorers with 23 points on 8-of-14 from the field.  Lustig added 19 while shooting 80% from 3-point range (4-5) to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team.

JCU will look to win its third in a row when it travels to Oberlin College for a 7:00 p.m. game on November 20.
