John Carroll made the most of it's final home game in 2012 tonight.

Still seeking a conference victory, the Blue and Gold welcomed Heidelberg to University Heights. John Carroll notched it's first Ohio Athletic Conference win of the season and snapped a 3-game skid, defeating Heidelberg, 63-59.

With the win, the Blue Streaks have defeated Heidelberg five straight times. JCU has never had a longer winning streak against their conference foe from Tiffin.

The Blue Streaks controlled the first ten minutes of the game, jumping out to an early 16-7 lead. But Heidelberg caught fire and ended the first half on a 26-11 scoring run. The charge was led by junior Kathleen Phillips, who scored 10 points in the first half.

John Carroll went into the break trailing, 30-24. Allie Lustig paced the Blue and Gold with 8 points in the opening period.

The last 20 minutes were a dog-fight. Though John Carroll grabbed the lead with 17:44 remaining, Heidelberg matched JCU blow for blow. With nine lead changes and poor shooting percentages from both squads, it seemed as though the last team to score would claim victory.

Lucky for the Blue Streaks, Heidelberg had plenty of one-and-done's all night. Thanks to snatching 12 additional rebounds over the Berg, including a +10 margin on the offensive glass, Beth Switzler (11 points, 12 rebounds) and company held off a late Heidelberg push. The Blue Streaks capitalized on 21 second chance points.

Heidelberg's Kathleen Phillips led all scorers with 22 points, while Megan Miller added 14 points of her own. Missy Spahar led the Blue Streaks with 15 points, while Allie Lustig contributed 14 points and 5 assists to the JCU victory.

John Carroll is now 6-3 overall and 1-3 in the OAC. Heidelberg falls to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in the OAC conference.
