In the end, the John Carroll women's basketball team could not close the gap against Wilmington and lost, 61-58, on the road. Just one step behind the whole game, the Blue Streaks could not overcome the strong rebounding of the Quakers.

The loss dropped John Carroll to 5-11 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) and 8-14 overall. Wilmington improves to 6-10 in the conference and 11-12 overall.

The Blue Streaks could not keep up with the Quakers' quickness at the start, which made things difficult for the Streaks to put pressure on Wilmington. Momentum swung toward John Carroll during last few minutes of the game but it was too late.

It was evident that the Blue and Gold's 3-point shooting helped keep them in the game. In four minutes during the first half, the, Blue Streaks made four 3-pointers. Point guard Allie Lustig made two of them and the team finished the half shooting 60 percent from beyond the arc.  By penetrating inside, it left players open on the 3-point line, which they used to their advantage.

At the end of the first half, Lustig had scored a team-high eight points. The swift sophomore guard helped drive the ball up the court, often cutting down the middle to help her team keep the game close early on.

But they just couldn't quite take the lead in the end.

With five mintues left, the Blue Streaks tried to make a run. A 3-point shot by senior guard Emily Day provided the second-half spark. The talented tandem of Heidi Mervar and MIssy Spahar accumulated points left and right, yet could not power John Carroll to the winner's circle.

Spahar nearly recorded a triple-double, with a team-high 14 points, 10 rebounds, and an astonishing eight steals.  

Although the Quakers committed 29 turnovers, time was not on the Blue Streaks' side and the Quaker lead was too large to overcome.
