Second Half Rally Not Enough To Overcome Rough Shooting Day As Blue Streaks Stumble Against Otterbein

Despite a surge in the game's last few minutes, the Blue Streaks could not overcome poor shooting in the beginning and lost at home to Otterbein University, 49-42. The defeat drops John Carroll to 4-10 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) and 7-13 overall.

It is safe to say that there were missed opportunities on both sides of the court in the first half. Shots did not drop inside of the hoop often for the two teams. John Carroll shot a disappointing 15.2 percent from the field in the first half (5-of-33). Otterbein made only 11 of their 27 shots before the break.

Aftert a slow-paced first half, the two teams came out of the locker room with a win in mind. John Carroll faced its largest deficit of the afternoon at 43-27 with 9:50 left, before a 9-0 JCU run fueled by a 3-pointer from Heidi Mervar pulled the Blue & Gold within six with 5:16 to play. .

With only two minutes remaining, Missy Spahar hit a layup to bring the Streaks within five points (41-46), but they could not close the gap any further.

Senior Emilee Ritchie led John Carroll with nine points and Spahar had a team-high nine rebounds.

Point guard Allie Lustig contributed with five steals. The sophomore is three assists shy of hitting the 100-mark for the season.

Otterbein, now 9-5 in conference and 15-6 overall, was led by junior Chelsea Cannon's 11 points. Freshman forward Tabatha Piper added 12 rebounds for the visiting Cardinals.

Up next on the schedule for JCU is a home game against Baldwin-Wallace on February 9 at 7:30 p.m.
