A fast start gave way to a troublesome final 30 minutes for the Blue Streaks as they fell on the road to Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College by a 65-56 score on Saturday afternoon.

Despite only one win in program history on Wilmington's campus, the John Carroll women's basketball team's chances of reversing that trend with a victory seemed promising early.  The first ten minutes belonged entirely to the Blue Streaks, and after a 3-pointer from Meghan Weber with 9:27 left before halftime, JCU led the Quakers, 21-10.

However, an ensuing 22-4 Wilmington run between the first and second halves seized momentum for the Green & White.  The home team led 32-25 at intermission.

The Blue Streaks played the Quakers even in the second, but could not pull any closer than a six-point deficit for the remainder of the game.  JCU struggled to score throughout the afternoon, hitting 21-of-64 field goals (32.8%) and 4-of-17 (23.5%) from long range.

Wilmington's Makenzie Wippel proved problematic for the visitors, leading all scorers with 22 points and eight rebounds.  For the Blue & Gold, Beth Switzler was a bright spot, scoring 13 points on 5-of-10 from the floor.  Hilary Liwosz and Elissa Day added eight points apiece.

John Carroll (9-4, 2-4 OAC) will look to circle the wagons against division rival Baldwin Wallace, which comes to University Heights on Wednesday, January 9 for a 7:30 p.m. contest.  Following the Yellow Jackets, the Streaks will host Marietta at 3:00 p.m. on January 12.
