Win Streak Halted At Eight As Women's Soccer Falls In OAC Tournament Championship

The Blue Streaks were presented their trophy for being co-regular season champions after the game.
Box Score Squared off against its co-regular-season champion cohorts, the John Carroll University women's soccer team looked to break through for its first OAC Tournament Championship since 2001.

Battling the wind and a pesky Capital University attack, the Blue Streaks fell 4-0 on Sunday afternoon and had their 8-game win streak snapped.

Hilary Ells broke through for the afternoon's first score in the fifth minute with Lauren Roy netting her first goal of the season in the 17th minute.

Capital's Becca Cartmill tested the Blue Streaks from the start firing off the game's first shot just 39 seconds into the contest sending Haley McDonald diving for the save. McDonald would go on to add two more saves in the half.

The Blue Streaks looked to break through and get on the scoreboard right before the half. Jackie Murrer blasted a shot with just over 10 minutes remaining in the half and Kay Akerly looked to play the ball into the box with around five minutes in the half but the shot was blocked by the Capital defense.

John Carroll came out aggressive in the second half having the added benefit of the wind at its side. Andrea Regrut nearly put the Blue Streaks on the board firing what looked to be a sure-goal but Capital goalkeeper Maggie Donnellan made a diving save at the last second.

The Blue Streaks looked to strike with just over 20 minutes remaining. Primed with back-to-back corner kicks JCU was unable to find the back of the net as Genny Goergen sailed her shot attempt over the crossbar.

Allison Mervau and Katie Freshour added scores with less than 10 minutes remaining to seal the win for Capital.

The Crusaders finished with a 14-11 shot advantage and a 6-5 corner kick advantage.

John Carroll fell to 11-7-3 while Capital improved to 16-4-1.
