Box Score Backed by a double dosage of Spahar, the John Carroll University women's basketball team opened the Kelly Morrone era with a convincing 75-58 win over Grove City on Friday evening in the opening round of the Creative Imprints Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Penn State-Behrend in Erie, Pa.

With older sister Missy scoring a career-high 28 points and younger sister Katlyn adding 20 in her collegiate debut, the Blue Streaks were in control from the start and never trailed.

Scoring 18 of her points in the first half, Missy was outscoring the entire Grove City team until the Wolverines reached 18 points with 3:48 remaining in the first half.

The sisters would go on to combine for 17 rebounds, seven assists and four steals on the night.

"We played a well-coached team tonight," said Morrone. "I'm proud of our players' effort defensively and their toughness. We need to do a better job rebounding hands down. Missy had a career night and Katlyn had a great rookie debut."

Using relentless pressure on defense the Blue Streaks forced 28 Wolverine turnovers including 19 coming via steals. Allie Lustig had the hot hand all night forcing five steals with Daniella Rice right behind with four. The 28 turnovers translated into 24 points for the Blue Streaks.

Building its lead all game, JCU led by as many as 27 when Katlyn Spahar connected on one of her game-high four 3-pointers with 14:26 remaining in the game.

John Carroll also featured five players with three or more assists led by Emily Taylor's team-high five.

The Blue Streaks outshot the Wolverines .429 to .358 for the contest.

John Carroll advances to the championship of the Creative Imprints Tip-Off Tournament and will take on host Penn State-Behrend on Saturday at 3 p.m.
