Box Score With a convincing win last night the John Carroll University women's basketball team advanced to today's championship of the Creative Imprints Tip-Off Tournament held in Erie, Pa. and hosted by Penn State-Behrend.

Putting together another complete game the Blue Streaks defeated the hosts 73-40 on Saturday afternoon to earn their third 2-0 start of the season in the last four years.

"We are thrilled to come off of the road 2-0," said first-year head coach Kelly Morrone. "Penn State-Behrend had a good game plan to collapse Missy after her performance last night. Great players respond the way she did. Missy was completely selfless and everyone responded. Beth is always solid and gets her job done. Katlyn played excellent again."

John Carroll took the lead early; only losing it once in the first half after the Lions put their first points on the board with a 3-point shot. By the end of the half, the Blue Streaks had an 18-point lead, with a score of 40-22.

The second half proved even less of a challenge as John Carroll held at least a 20-point lead to close out the game.  Four players, including Beth Switzler, Katlyn Spahar, Missy Spahar and Emily Taylor, all had 10 or more points in the game.

The Blue Streaks dominated the Lions inside, finishing with a 44-8 advantage on points in the paint. John Carroll also dominated the court with points off turnovers, outscoring Penn State-Behrend 29-2. The Blue Streaks shot .516 on the afternoon held the Lions to a .318 shooting percentage.

Two players were recognized for their performances in the tournament. Spahar was named the tournament MVP with 12 points, eight rebounds and four steals today. The senior scored a career-high 28 points in last night's contest. Switzler earned a spot on the all-tournament team with a 17 point performance against the Lions finishing 8-of-9 from the field.

John Carroll opens the home portion of its schedule on Sunday, Dec. 1 against Carnegie Mellon at 2 p.m. inside the DeCarlo Varsity Center.
