Kayla Acklin (#6) and the Blue Streaks fended off Ohio Northern for a trip to the OAC championship match
Box Score Genny Goergen had played in 80 matches before tonight as a Blue Streak.
Match 81 topped them all.
In dramatic fashion, the Blue Streaks won 2-1 in the second overtime period to advance to the Ohio Athletic Conference championship game. This win extends their winning streak to eight games, and John Carroll hopes to keep rolling against Capital on Sunday, November 10, at 2 p.m.
With only seven minutes remaining in the second overtime period, it was Goergen who scored the Blue Streaks winning goal. The senior sent a laser shot to the upper left corner of the net after receiving the pass from teammate
Preston Mendel, who was credited with the assist. The goal which was Georgen's fourth of the year, and it gave the Blue Streaks their first overtime win of the year.
Despite the fact that John Carroll's seven-game shutout streak ended, the team's offense managed to step up and take control of the game.

Nicki Bohrer quickly came out of the gate with a header shot at the 44:32 mark. Control of the ball was equally divided by both teams until the Blue Streaks started to turn up the heat at the end of the first half.
Keeping up the momentum in the second half, John Carroll's offense kept knocking on the ONU's door, adding two shots on goal to Ohio Northern's one.
However, it would be Ohio Northern that struck first. Sami Atknson picked up a loose ball off a clearing attempt that deflected into the box. With the keeper screened, Atkinson simply sent the ball unimpeded into the right side of the goal.
JCU seemed to pick up its game following its first goal allowed since October 8. Feeding off of her team's energy,
Kay Akerly scored, tying up the game with 19:45 left in the game. Akerly's goal came after an Ohio Northern player gave the Blue Streaks a penalty kick in the box for a hand ball.
John Carroll's goal allowed the Blue Streaks to keep fighting into overtime.
Neither team managed to score in the first overtime period, but both had ample opportunity to score. John Carroll outshot Ohio Northern by 2-0.

Haley McDonald, Goergen's goal locked up the Blue and Gold's win and an OAC Tournament championship appearance for the third consecutive year.
John Carroll, the #2 seed, improved to 11-6-3, while Ohio Northern's season ends at 10-9-2.
