Michael Buckiso was one of ten placewinners for JCU at the 2013 Citrus Invitational
With its most decorated wrestler competing at the 51st Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships in Illinois, the John Carroll wrestling team took to the mats Sunday and Monday in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, hoping to make noise in the 2013 Citrus Invitational.
On the strength of ten placewinners, the Blue Streaks finished fifth of nine teams. Cornell won the event with 152.5 points, followed by Mount Union (135.5) and Liberty (133.5). Ursinus (130) and John Carroll (109) rounded out the top five.

The Blue Streaks were unable to claim any individual titles, but junior
Todd Gaydosh came close. He was the lone finalist amongst the JCU contingent, placing second at 184 pounds. Gaydosh pinned his first opponent, then defeated Daniel Kirk of Mount Union in the semifinals. In the championship bout, he fell to top seeded Daniel Manganaro of Ursinus, 5-2.
Will Porter had an outstanding tournament, posting a 3-1 record and finishing third at 285 pounds. His only loss was to eventual champion Carl Gaul of Cornell.

Jake Vincent at 157 and
Robert Kratman at 197 all finished fourth in their respective weight classes. Buckiso and Vincent each won a team-high four matches in the tournament.
Earning fifth place showings were
Anthony Trocchio at 141 (despite being unseeded) and Tom McNulty at 165, who matched Buckiso and Vincent with four victories.
Sal Corrao finished sixth at 125 pounds, and Matt Tusick placed seventh at 165 pounds.
While most of the Blue Streaks were in Florida,
Terner Gott represented John Carroll at the prestigious Midlands Tournament. The two-time NCAA Division III national qualifier received an invitation to compete in this year's championships, which featured more than 40 schools and an assortment of national champions and national powers from Division I, II, III and NAIA programs participating in this historic event.
Gott went 0-2, dropping his first match to redshirt junior Jake Gingerich of the University of Illinois by a 6-4 count. In his wrestleback, Gott fell by a 5-4 decision to redshirt junior Ben Dorsay from the University of Maryland.
