The John Carroll women's basketball team passed yet another test Staurday afternoon, going into Ada and coming out with a double-digit win over the defending Ohio Athletic Conference champions.
Missy Spahar had 26 points,
Allie Lustig added 15 and
Beth Switzler dropped in ten as JCU rolled to a 73-58 victory over Ohio Northern.
The Polar Bears went 18-0 a year ago in league play, but suffered its second OAC defeat of the 2013-14 campaign when it could not prevent John Carroll from coming up with 23 second chance points.
It also helped that
Missy Spahar stayed on her incredible hot streak with yet another double-double, collecting 12 boards to go with her 26 points.
The Blue Streaks led most of the way, taking their first double digit lead when
Katlyn Spahar nailed a jumper with 4:16 left in the opening half to make the score 32-21.
But Ohio Northern responded with a solid run to start the second half. Brooke Espenscheid's three-point play with 18:11 in the second half trimmed the Blue Streaks' lead to 33-31.
The John Carroll answer was swift, as the Streaks rattled off 11 consecutive points. When Lustig drained a three with just over 15 minutes remaining in the period, JCU led 44-31.
The Polar Bears never got closer than seven points at any juncture.
John Carroll improved to 5-0 and 2-0 in the OAC. This is the Blue Streaks' first 2-0 start in league play since the 2002-03 season.
This was John Carroll's first regular season win in Ada since February 7, 2009.
