Box Score Looking to rebound from a five set heartbreaking thriller the John Carroll University volleyball team came out of the gates swinging to take down undefeated Westminster College in a three set sweep on Saturday morning in Berea, Ohio.

"We passed very well," said second-year head coach Laura Rodeffer. "It was excellent. We could run our offense when we needed to and get our middles involved. I felt we did a good job defending them."

With the 25-20, 25-21, 26-24 win the Blue Streaks snapped their three-match losing streak and improve to 5-3 while Westminster drops to 6-1.

Kit O'Shaughnessy led the way for the Blue Streaks both as a setter and as a hitter. The crafty freshman recorded seven kills on 15 attack attempts and also had 31 assists and 10 digs for another double-double. Sarah Orlandi and Jessica Kodrich continued to pace the attack combining for 20 kills on 42 swings. Defensively Sara Kaminski added 21 digs.

Despite the early morning drive over to the west side of town, John Carroll had a smoking hot .303 hitting percentage in the first set. Orlandi continued to play well recording kills on all five of her first set swings. O'Shaughnessy distributed the ball well to keep the Titans off balance with five players recording kills in the opening set. Kaminski continued to have an answer for every opponent swing recorded nine digs in the set for the third straight time carrying over from Friday. After being tied at 14, the Blue Streaks capitalized on an 11-6 run to close out the first set.

JCU jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the second set with Orlandi once again leading the charge with a kill and an ace. However, Westminster would not go quietly and came back to take the lead at 15-14. A well-timed block by Leah Switalski and O'Shaughnessy tipped the momentum back in the favor of the Blue Streaks at 21-20. Kills by O'Shaughnessy and Teresa Noewer gave the set to John Carroll and warded off a ferocious Titan rally.

The Blue Streaks heated up hitting once again in the third set outhitting the Titans .294 to .179. O'Shaughnessy continued to keep the Titans off balance with six Blue Streaks recording two or more digs led by Kodrich's five.

John Carroll was coasting along with a three to four point lead until the Titans stormed back to tie the score at 24. Not losing composure Switalski responded with a kill before O'Shaughnessy dumped one just over the outstretched arms of the Titans' blockers to give the set and match to John Carroll.
