The stingy defense of Ohio Northern handed John Carroll its first loss at home this season on a chilly Sunday afternoon. Back and forth play between the two physical teams created a thrilling final 10 minutes of the game, but the Polar Bears would prevail by a score of 74-71.

John Carroll's
Missy Spahar tied the score at 59 on a 3-pointer with 4:24 remaining in the game. Ohio Northern's Taylor Hermiller finished a layup with 3:48 remaining to put the Polar Bears up for good.

Allie Lustig attempted a 3-pointer with three seconds remaining but was off the mark.

Up seven at the half, John Carroll ran into a tough Ohio Northern offense in the second half. With 8:35 remaining in the game the Polar Bears turned a 1-point Blue Streak lead into a 5-point lead with 6:08 left in the game.

John Carroll regrouped with a pair of free throws by Spahar and
Daniella Rice with 5:23 to pull within one.

Beth Switzler with 52 seconds remaining and a free throw by
Katlyn Spahar with 37 seconds left kept JCU within one.
The first half consisted of a much slower paced, defensive battle. The Polar Bears would force 10 Blue Streak turnovers and had seven steals and five blocks. John Carroll would end the half on a 12-2 run, which gave them a 28-21 lead going into the locker room.

Senior
Missy Spahar put up her ninth double-double of the season, scoring 26 points and bottling up 10 total rebounds. Junior
Emily Taylor put up a strong defensive effort, with two blocks and two steals. She added seven points and four rebounds.
Leading the way for the Polar Bears on their way to victory was Jordan Kimes, who put up 18 points and 10 rebounds. Sara Kocian added 12 points and five assists on the afternoon as well.

JCU falls to 13-2 (8-2 OAC) after the loss and ONU moves up to 13-4 (6-4 OAC). Next up for the Blue Streaks, is a trip to Alliance to take on the Purple Raiders, this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
