Box Score 2 John Carroll shook off its second loss of the season from earlier in the week with a strong showing Friday night on day one of the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
The Blue Streaks got past a strong Buffalo State team in four sets, then made quick work of Pitt-Greensburg in three to finish the first day and improve its record to 11-2 on the year.
In the openeing match, John Carroll cruised through the first two games then got into a battle over the final two in winning 25-17, 25-10, 22-25, 25-22.Â
Alexa Webber (11),
Sarah Orlandi (10) and
Leah Switalski (10) all reached double figures in kills, while
Sara Kaminski racked up 35 digs. As a team, John Carroll had a .245 hitting percentage for the match.
Buffalo State, which fell to 6-4, came into the match having won four in a row and six of its last seven contests.
In the nightcap, the Blue Streaks were never threatened in winning 25-9, 25-12, 25-13.Â
John Carroll will play host Carnegie Mellon Saturday at 12:00 pm, before wrapping up the tournament at 4:00 pm with a match against fellow Jesuit school Scranton.Â
