Some nights just have a special feel about them. Senior Night on Tuesday evening in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center was one of those nights.
The John Carroll University wrestling team (7-8, 1-4 OAC) beat the Otterbein Cardinals (12-6, 1-4 OAC), 22-20, on Tuesday night in University Heights.
JCU won five straight matches in the middle weights to gain their first OAC dual win, sending off
Sal Corrao,
Tyler Hardtke and
Anthony Trocchio in style.
The visiting Cardinals won the 125-pound match and 133-pound match by decision and fall, respectively. In his last home dual at JCU, senior
Sal Corrao (141) won by fall (3:52) over Robé Harris to gain the John Carroll's first team points of the evening.
Sophomore
Jarrad Lasko followed that by gaining a fall of his own at 149 pounds. Lasko gained the pin 1:04 into the match. Lasko has now won 16 of his last 17 matches, with the one loss coming in the championship match of the Pete Willson-Wheaton Invitational.
The winning rout continued for the Blue Streaks, as junior
Blake Dixon (157) gained his second consecutive win over OAC opponents by major decision (17-8).
Senior
Tyler Hardtke (165) wrestled in his second OAC match on Tuesday evening, gaining a 9-6 win by decision to take JCU's win streak to five. Continuing the path of success,
Jimmy Suhayda (174) earned his first career win over an OAC opponent by an 8-5 decision over Braden Neuberger of Otterbein.
Following JCU's five-match consecutive win burst, the score was 22-9 in favor of the Blue & Gold. The win streak was capped following the 174-pound match, with Otterbein taking the final three matches of the evening.
