In a tournament which John Carroll finished 10th out of 11 teams last year, the Blue Streaks are making a strong rebound.

At the Citrus Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the Blue Streaks put themselves in a good position to finish better this year after one day of competition. John Carroll (61 points) sits in fourth place out of 13 teams, one spot and one point ahead of Ferrum (60 points). NYU, the #18 team in the nation according to Intermat, leads the pack with 90 points, followed by Division II UNC Pembroke (87 points) and RIT (85 points).

Counting both the championship and consolation brackets, the Blue Streaks have 15 competitors still alive to score team points heading into day two. Andrew Perelka, Jarrod Brezovec and Jarrad Lasko will compete in the championship semifinal round of the 125-, 141- and 149-pound weight classes tomorrow, respectively.

Perelka pinned both of his opponents in under three minutes and will face Collin Wickramara from Ursinus for a chance to go to the championship round. Both Perelka and Wickramara are listed as "honorable mention" in the 125-pound rankings at d3wrestle.com.

Brezovec's campaign in the 141 class has been one of pure domination with two major decisions of more than 11 points over Jake Wulf of Cornell College and Isaiah Ocasio of RIT, followed by a pin of Oneonta State's Ahken Chu in 1:39 in the quarterfinals.  He will take on Evan Drill from NYU tomorrow for a chance to go to the finals. Drill was the #8 ranked wrestler at 149 pounds according to d3wrestle.com, but is wrestling at 141 pounds in this tournament.

Jarred Lasko picked up his 90th career win with a 10-4 decision win over Zach Stedeford (honorable mention 149-pounder according to d3wrestle.com) from RIT to move him into the semifinals.  Lasko remains just five victories from being in the all-time top 10 in John Carroll wrestling history. He is set to wrestle against Kaleb Warner (a former Division I wrestler for Campbell University) from UNC Pembroke for a chance to go to the championship round.

Kyle Murray (125), Spencer Dusi (133), Jeff Brichford (141), Danny Novak (157), Shane Ging (157), Seth Winkle (165), Sam Gross (165), Luke Reicosky (165), Vittorio Santillo (174), Jimmy Suhayda (174), Christian Hipsher (184), and Luca Santillo (285) all have the ability to achieve the 3rd spot on their respective podiums tomorrow.  Novak (1-1) and Ging (2-1) will have to face off against each other in order to advance through the consolation bracket.

Murray's two wins have been by fall and technical fall.

Dusi, Novak, Vittorio Santillo and Hipsher all reached the championship quarterfinals before suffering their first defeat.

Seth Winkle, after achieving a pin over Joseph Hennen of St. Johns University, beating teammate Christian DeDi, and winning out over Colin Honderd by a 7-5 Decision, has cracked the 30-win barrier in his career, moving to 31-16 overall.

Luca Santillo continues his impressive freshman season in the heavyweight division with a 3-1 record today as he looks to climb up through the consolation bracket tomorrow.  His only loss today was in the second round to William McGinley from Ursinus and it was a 5-4 decision. In his three wins he only allowed four total points against him in (10-4, 17-0, and 6-0).
