John Carroll continues to display good depth after day one of the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships on Friday at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. The Blue Streaks currently sit in fifth place heading into the final day of competition.
The John Carroll women are fresh off their best overall finish at a conference championship during indoor where they took third in the OAC as a team. They look to gain ground in day two of the outdoor championships now.
John Carroll tallied 27 points. Ohio Northern leads the competition with 66 points, followed by Otterbein (58.50), Mount Union (45.50), Baldwin Wallace (29) and John Carroll.

The field events got the day started for the Blue Streaks, with two individuals scoring for the team.
Nicole Pilewski earned All-OAC honors in the javelin for the third straight year with a season best 37.51m throw.
Katelyn Frandanisa scored for the Blue & Gold in the long jump, taking fourth with a huge personal best of 5.21m.
Erin Kiley earned All-OAC honors in the 10000-meter run. Kiley finished in 37:59.84, which was good for third place.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase,
Cassie Schillero was the top John Carroll finisher, clocking in at 11:30.76, good for fifth place. Chrystal Hajek followed in seventh place with a time of 12:00.81.

The Blue Streaks set themselves up well for Saturday in multiple preliminary races
Ashura Powell dominated the preliminary races in the 200-meter dash (25.35) and 400-meter dash (57.76). Powell took first in the 400-meter dash and second in the 200-meter dash, with each time being both a personal best and new school record. Other qualifiers in the 400-meter dash included
Noelle Saluan with a personal best 58.70 time (5th in prelim.),
Kendall Miller in 59.48 (6th in prelim.), and
Rachel Schubert in 59.77 (8th in prelim.).
In the 100-meter hurdles,
Karrah Spencer logged a personal best 15.37 time, which has her in first going into finals.
Antonia Piazza qualified in sixth place with a time of 16.14. Piazza also qualified in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in seventh with a time of 1:06.27 which was a new personal best. Others qualifying in the 400-meter hurdles were
Jessie Swisher (6th, 1:06.25) and
Emma Harvey (8th, 1:06.51).
