John Carroll Sweeps Wilmington to Earn OAC Tournament Berth

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WILMINGTON, Ohio -- With a berth to the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament on the line, John Carroll University Volleyball did not disappoint.

The Blue Streaks took care of business against Wilmington College, earning a 25-14, 25-18, 25-22 victory.

John Carroll also defeated Olivet in the final match of the regular season in the backend of Saturday's doubleheader, 25-9, 23-25, 25-18, 25-18.

The Blue Streaks will be the sixth seed in the upcoming conference tournament and will face Muskingum the three seed in the first round. 

Wilmington Recap

Set 1
The set opened evenly, with the Fightin' Quakers and Blue Streaks splitting the first 18 points, 9-9. Then Ally Bartolone went to work. With the senior serving, the Blue Streaks galloped to a nice run, leaping to a 15-9 advantage. 

Wilmington couldn't recover, as the Blue Streaks didn't relent down the stretch. A host of Blue Streaks contributed kills, as it was a full team effort down the stretch. The Blue Streaks experienced little difficulty in capturing the 25-14 set win.

Set 2
Wilmington managed to build a lead in the second set, 9-5. A Bartolone ace and a Cassi Calamunci kill turned the momentum, as the Blue Streaks pushed ahead to a 14-11 lead with some more nice plays. 

The Fightin' Quakers battled to within one point, 18-17. But then the Blue Streaks caught fire and scored seven of the next eight points. 

Set 3
In the most competitive set, the two squads traded points and were tied at 14 before JCU scored four-straight points. Bartolone had the final kill of the match giving the Blue and Gold the victory. 

For the match, Calamunci had 18 kills for JCU while hitting .385.  Anna Coughlin added 26 digs defensively and Bartolone registered 21 assists.

Three Quakers tallied seven kills while Blake O'Brien had a match-high 34 digs for Wilmington.

The win marked the sixth sweep for the Blue Streaks this season.

Olivet Recap

Set 1
John Carroll took care of business in the first set, defeating the Comets 25-9 and marking the lowest points the Blue Streaks have allowed in a 25 point set this season.

JCU raced out to a quick 15-5 lead and scored 10 of the next 12 points to aid in the dominant ser one win.

Set 2
After Olivet raced to a 3-0 lead to begin set two, John Carroll scored three in a row to tie it at 11-11.  Despite Olivet holding a lead each point after, JCU tied it once again at 21-21 but a late Comet rally led to a 25-23 victory to tie the match 1-1.

Set 3
After a back and forth beginning to the third set, JCU took control taking a 16-10 lead.  Olivet trimmed the lead to five on multiple occasions but the Blue Streaks delivered winning 25-18.

Set 4
Despite Olivet jumping out to an 8-6 advantage, JCU scored six points in a row to take a 12-8 lead.  

The Comets made it a one point lead on multiple occasions but could not come from behind as the Blue Streaks rattled off the final five points to pull out the 25-18 win.

JCU had 62 kills during the match, a season-high against non-conference opponents while hitting above .300 for only the third time this season.  

Calamunci registered 15 kills while Carleen Ellerbruch and Jennifer Follmer had 12 and 10 kills respectively.  It was just the second time Ellerbruch has recorded 10 or more kills in a match this season as well.

Olivia DuFore and Ellie Louiselle each had double digit kills for Olivet.
