NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- John Carroll Wrestling saw another stellar performance this weekend at the North Central College Invitational.

The Blue Streaks earned 4th place out of 12 teams with 68.5 points. They were beaten out by Baldwin Wallace (94.5), North Central University (167), and Augsburg University (176). The Blue Streaks only brought 8 wrestlers, and with 5 of the teams in this tournament being ranked in the nation, this was a tough competition for the Blue Streaks.

Luke Reicosky earned a first-place finish in the 165-pound weight class.  Patrick McGraw (157 lbs.) and Jesse Kanatzar (197 lbs.) were runner-ups in their weight classes, falling just short in the finals. Andrew Perelka (133 lbs.) placed 3rd in his bracket.

Luke Reicosky (165 lbs.) and Andrew Perelka (133 lbs.) also had historic days on Saturday, with both wrestlers earning their 100th career wins.

Luke Reicosky (165 lbs.) led the way for the streaks on Saturday, as the veteran cruised into the semifinals with back-to-back falls in the first two rounds (2:48 and 4:45).  Reicosky would then see two consecutive close matches, winning 3-2 in both the semifinals against Cooper Willis (Augsburg University), and the finals against Cole Cervante (North Central).

Luke Reicosky also earned his 100th career win, an incredible achievement that only nine others at John Carroll had achieved.

Patrick McGraw (157 lbs.) saw a narrow defeat in the finals, losing 6-3 to Blake Jagodzinske (Augsburg University).  He still had a dominant performance, earning two major decisions.  McGraw ran through his competition, winning his first match 15-4, and his second match, 10-2.  McGraw won his semifinals match 7-2 against Aj Woodfork (Quincy University).

John Carroll's last finalist, Jesse Kanatzar (197 lbs.) also placed 2nd in his bracket.  He had a phenomenal first match, beating Jake Kaminski (Wisconsin-Whitewater) 17-3 and scoring a major decision.  After winning by a medical forfeit in his semifinal round, Kantazar made his way to the finals, where he came up just short against Parker Venz of Augsburg University.

The final member of the Blue Streaks to place in the tournament was Andrew Perelka (133 lbs.), who came in 3rd in his bracket.  Perelka began his day fast, winning his first match with a first-period pin at 0:32.  In his second match, he scored a major decision, winning 9-1.  After a tough 10-6 loss to Baldwin Wallace's Jaden Hinton, Perelka would defeat Cade Willis (Augsburg University) 4-0 to procure a 3rd place finish.

Like Reicosky, Andrew Perelka had a historic day, also earning his 100th career win. Both Reicosky and Perelka are two of only 11 John Carroll wrestlers to win 100 matches in their careers, and it has been reflected in their performances.

The Blue Streaks compete again on Thursday, December 29, at the Citrus Invitational in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
