UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- In the midst of a busy holiday season, John Carroll Women's Basketball plans to contribute to the festivities with an added game against Transylvania University on Saturday, December 17.

On Friday, Dec. 16, John Carroll travels to Marietta for an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup. The newly added game against Transylvania will help the Blue Streaks prepare for the quick turnarounds necessary in the postseason, as the start time vs. Transy is scheduled for 4 pm in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center on Saturday, Dec. 17.

The Pioneers currently hold the #3 spot in the D3hoops.com women's Top 25 poll, posing a new challenge for John Carroll as the squad looks to prepare for the intensity of OAC play. JCU is ranked #21 in the latest WBCA poll, but unranked in the D3hoops.com rankings. The Blue Streaks and Pioneers have only met once before: in a battle of top 25 teams last season. Transylvania won that one on December 20, 2021, 83-75.

So far, John Carroll's depth poses a unique threat to their opposition, as young talent has emerged to match the speed of the veterans like Kaelyn Underwood and Jaylen Hoffmann.

Maddie Pietrowski, Carmen Heuker, Ava Ryncarz, and Bella Carcioppolo have all earned quality minutes for the Blue Streaks, each bringing their own skill sets that have been beneficial on both offense and defense.

For Transylvania, Kennedi Stacy and Maddie Kellione will likely have their appearance known on the court, with dynamic talents under the boards and from beyond the three point line.

Both squads present a novel athleticism that will make for an entertaining, fast-paced, and high-pressure game.

As of now, the Blue Streaks sit at an overall record of 4-1. The matchup against Transylvania isn't entirely predictable, but with victories that John Carroll has earned in their series of opening games, the future is certainly bright.
