Weekend Wrap for Women's Track & Field: Hurtt Heralds a Blue Streak Attack on Top 10

| By:
Olivia Hurtt had an oustanding weekend.
It was a heck of a weekend for the John Carroll Women's Track & Field.

The Blue Streaks traversed the Midwest, heading all over the place to compete against top competition. The travel paid off, as the Blue Streaks head into Easter Break in wonderful shape.

Four Blue Streaks now stand in the top 10 in Division III: Olivia Hurtt and Kelsey Dunn hold down #3 and #4 in the Discus, Hurtt claims #5 in the Hammer Throw, and Cameron Bujaucius sits at #10 in the 10,000m.

Here's how it went down for the Blue Streaks in an action-packed weekend.

Bucknell Invitational (Lewisburg, PA)

JCU's distance runners repped the program at Bucknell on Friday, with nice results.

Sydney Jenko was the lone Blue Streak in the 5000m. She crossed the finish line in 17:16.52, dropping a couple seconds from a few weeks ago and placing her in the top 25 nationally.

The 10,000m was filled with Blue Streaks. Cameron Bujaucius led the pack, with the second sub-36 minute time of her career. The veteran clocked in at 35.29.23, which currently stands as the 10th best time in the country. Erica Esper followed, clipping a nice time of 37:32.31. Marie Pinzone clocked in at 39:04.29 and Jen Massucci timed in at 39:13.39.

The 3000m Steeplechase also featured a pair of Blue Streaks. Katy Fellenstein notched a mark of 11:36.64 and Shauna Glavin following at 11:39.44.

Tiffin Track Carnival (Tiffin, OH)

The throwers grabbed the limelight on Friday in Tiffin, as Olivia Hurtt and Kelsey Dunn absolutely rocked the show.

Hurtt and Dunn were a fiery 1-2 punch in the Discus. Both bettered the school record that Dunn set just one week ago. Hurtt hurled a 45.91 in incredible fashion, propelling herself to #3 in Division III. Dunn was right behind her, with a massive toss of 45.56m, now #4 in all of D-III.

And that wasn't all.

Hurtt followed it up with a dynamite effort in the Hammer Throw. The senior launched the ball & chain to an amazing distance of 53.58m. Not only did the moonshot set a new program record, but Hurtt launched herself to #5 in the event in the country. Just a marvelous showing in Tiffin.

Additionally, Cara Jewett tabbed eighth in the hammer throw at 32.66m.

Lucia Cannata is heating up with the weather, as the senior clipped a time of 12.23 in her first 100m race. She added a time of 25.13 in the 200m dash as well. Mia Scott (13.13), Massey Andrykovitch (13.33), and Olivia Stefka (14.28) all nabbed PRs in the 100m.

Claire Eberhardt competed in the 800m, logging a time of 2:16.51 for a top five finish. Amanda Keim repped JCU in the 1500m with a time of 4:55.35 for 12th. Emmaline Hannan also finished top 15 with a time of 4:59.44.

Genevieve Arnold raced well on Friday. She clocked in at 15.54 in the 100m hurdles and at 1:06.90 in the 400m hurdles.

Caroline Beery tabbed top 10 in the pole vault, hitting 3.30m. Michaela Bryan penned 11th in the high jump at 1.53m. Massey Andrykovitch hit top 10 in the triple jump with a leap of 9.80m for eighth.

On Saturday, Madeline Scherle earned a victory. She won the javelin by a long shot, earning the conquest with a toss of 35.80m, just over 4m longer than the second-place finisher.
