Wrestling Tabs Two Wins to Conclude Annual Trip to Florida

The Blue Streaks bested St. Thomas University and Brewton-Parker College.
MIAMI, Fla. — John Carroll Wrestling concluded its annual trip to Florida with an electric performance at the Bobcat Duals at St. Thomas University in Miami, Fl.  
The Blue Streaks competed against St. Thomas University and Brewton-Parker College, winning both duals to earn a 2-0 finish. On the day, six John Carroll wrestlers won both of their matches, with 4 of the 6 getting a fall or technical fall.

JCU vs. Brewton Parker College
JCU dominated their NAIA opponent out of Mount Vernon, Georgia by a score of 50-6. Thomas Lunt won an exhibition match at 3-1 at 285 lbs, followed by a 15-0 technical fall by Caiden Rodgers bumping up to 197 lbs. 

Brewton Parker (125) and JCU (184) each won a bout by forfeit and the Blue Streaks won the 8 remaining bouts by either fall or technical fall. Andrew Perelka (133), Anthony Santagata (141), Ryan Forrest (157), and Tom Blackwell (285) all won their matches by pin. Kale Buckiso (149), Patrick McGraw (165), Adam Salek (174), and Jesse Kantazar (197) all won by technical fall.
 
JCU vs. St. Thomas University
The Blue Streaks concluded the morning against St. Thomas University, where they defeated the Bobcats 30-22.  

The Blue Streaks were in motion right away when Andrew Perelka (133) pinned his opponent in the usual fashion, within the first 21 seconds of the match.

After Kale Buckiso (149) won his match by decision 6-3, the Blue Streaks would see two consecutive pins from Patrick McGraw (157) and Ryan Forrest (165) at 2:12 and 3:50, respectively. Stefan Farian (184) won by major decision 8-0, and Jesse Kantazar (197) won by technical fall for the second time, out scoring his opponents 30-0 on the day.

"The team wrestled great after a tough week of training in the Florida Keys," said Head Coach Mark Hawald. "We're excited to get back home and start prepping for Regionals and Nationals."

The Blue Streaks compete next against Wilmington College on Tuesday, January 17 at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.
