UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The Blue Streaks made the annual 247-mile trek on I-90 for the RIT Invitational.

In the 57th edition of the invitational, John Carroll tallied seventh place as a team.

The Blue Streaks tallied one champ, one runner-up, and two other placers.

The story of the day was Bear Horgan. The freshman won the 197-pound championship, the lone first-placer for the Blue Streaks on the day.

The Surprise, Arizona native opened with a quick pin win, and then tallied another win via fall in 4:14 over Shaquille Daniel (Oswego State). Horgan conquered his next foe via an 18-10 major decision, besting John Fiore (Trinity (CT). Matthew Caldwell (Penn State Behrend) succumbed to the freshman next via an 18-3 tech fall. And in the title bout, Horgan finished the task with authority. The first-year defeated the top seed, Anthony Cascen (Oswego State), via fall at 4:52. It was an impressive feat for the young Streak.

Patrick McGraw tallied runner-up honors for JCU. The fifth-year inched closer to Andrew Perelka's win record today, opening with three straight tech falls: 15-0 over Carter Tadusz (RIT), 19-3 over Liam Goodrich (Pennsylvania College of Technology), and 19-4 over Trevor Sheehan (St. John Fisher). The semifinal turned out to be a narrow affair, but the Saint Ignatius product prevailed, with a close 3-2 decision over Cj Christo Shea (Wesleyan (CT). McGraw's day unfortunately ended in defeat with a 17-4 MD at the hands of top-seeded Peter Kane (Williams College).

Jesse Kanatzar and Americo Milani tabbed fifth-place efforts, while Ty Daugherty tabbed sixth.

At 184, Kanatzar kicked off his day by pinning Andrew Mickel (Utica) in 1:51. But a 10-4 decision loss to Aris Dashiell (Wesleyan (CT) pushed him into the consolation bracket. The Tallmadge native fought back with an 18-3 tech fall and a 4-2 decision before dropping a narrow 4-3 decision loss. Kanatzar claimed fifth with a 15-0 tech fall over Colton Geitler (Pitt-Bradford).

At 141, Milani opened with an 18-0 tech fall over Wayne Earl (Oswego State) and kept it rolling with a 15-3 victory over Donnie Morton (Williams College). Milani moved on to the quarterfinal via an injury to Noah Hunt (Pennsylvania College of Technology) but lost the following match. Milani lost the consis opener before getting a win via medical forfeit for fifth.

At 133, Daugherty cruised into the quarterfinals with a 16-0 tech fall over Noah Lim (Wesleyan (CT) and by pinning Charles Trimber (Pennsylvania College of Technology) in 4:37. But a 5-3 decision dropped him to the consis and he also lost his next two matches (7-6 decision and fall at 4:10) to take sixth place.

John Carroll will return to action next Sunday, hosting a Tri-Meet. The Blue Streaks will face Otterbein at 12 pm and then Hiram at 1:30 pm in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.
