Basheer Alramahi, 4x400m Relay Highlights Season Openers for the Blue Streaks

Basheer Alramahi Leads the Way for the Blue Streaks at Season Openers
The indoor track & field season has arrived and the Blue Streaks made the most out of the weekend. On Friday, the team traveled to Youngstown, Ohio for the YSU Icebreaker, hosted by Youngstown State University at the Watson and Tressel Training Site. They were back in action on Saturday at the CWRU Holiday Classic hosted by Case Western Reserve University. 

Friday, December 1

Final Results

The men showcased their efforts throughout the meet led by sophomore Basheer Alramahi, who posted a PR of 47.56 seconds breaking his own school record in his 400m opener. With that time, Alramahi became the 15th fastest performer all-time in Division III history and is currently ranked second in the country behind Mount Union's Matt McBride. 

The PRs didn't stop there for the 400m squad. Caleb Correia posted a mark of 50.04 seconds in the open to place in the top 20 and won his heat. Brody Hanlon (50.32 seconds) and Victor Ononogbo (50.56 seconds) both placed high in their heats, earning PRs in the process. Lastly, in his collegiate debut, Colby Humbert ran 50.61 seconds to earn second place in his heat. 

To conclude the day, the men's 4 x 400m relay of Tyler Gast, Garrett Clark, Correia and Alramahi ran a new school record of 3:12.91 and became a top eight relay squad in Division III history. They are currently ranked #1 in the country.

Saturday, December 2

Final Results

The Blue Streaks competed on Saturday at the CWRU Holiday Classic. The personal bests kept rolling for the men, as Jimmy Kartsonas ran 6.96 seconds in the 60m dash earning a second place finish in the finals. Freshman Jeremy Frazao made his collegiate debut in the men's triple jump as he posted a mark of 13.06m to earn a fourth place finish. On the throws side in the shot put, Matthew Russo (13.25m) and Zach Szafarski (12.72m) earned top 10 finishes to get their seasons started. 

The Blue Streaks will return to competition on Saturday, January 20th for the 2023 Spire Midwest Open in Geneva, Ohio.
