Volleyball Garners 2023 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

John Carroll returns to the list for the first time since the 2018-19 academic year.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – Following a banner year on the court, John Carroll Volleyball can now claim a strong academic honor.

On Thursday, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its team academic honorees. For the first time since the 2018-19 academic year, the Blue Streaks have returned to the list.

John Carroll Volleyball has been honored with the 2023 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award.

The Blue Streaks tallied a 3.34 team grade point average (GPA) to claim the distinction. The Blue & Gold missed out by small percentage points in the last couple years. JCU Volleyball claimed the honor three years in a row in 2016-17, 2017-18, and 2018-19.

On the court, the women of Michele Benoit enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2022. The Blue Streaks finished as the runners-up in the Ohio Athletic Conference in both the regular season and the tournament. JCU tallied a 21-8 record, with memorable victories over several conference juggernauts.

John Carroll opens the 2023 campaign on Friday, September 1 against SUNY Brockport, hoping for another marvelous season ahead.
