Men's Wrestling Enjoys Solid Day at the Bob Del Rosa Ohio Intercollegiate Open

CLEVELAND – John Carroll Men's Wrestling didn't need to travel far on Sunday for some good competition.

The Blue Streaks traveled to nearby Case Western Reserve University for the Bob Del Rosa Ohio Intercollegiate Open.

Inside of CWRU's Veale Convocation, Recreation, and Athletic Center, the Blue Streaks tallied four placers in the Open brackets and four placers in the freshmen/sophomore brackets.

Jesse Kanatzar highlighted the team's placers in the Open division with a fourth-place effort. Following a 16-8 decision in the 197 pound quarterfinal, the Tallmadge native lost the semifinal and then dropped his third-place match against a challenger from the host Spartans. 

Thomas Lunt tabbed fifth at 285. The heavyweight lost his opening contest but got to the fifth-place match, in which he eked out a 4-2 victory.

Alex Crane (125) and Aiden Ashburn (174) rounded out JCU's placers, as both notched sixth-place efforts. After an opening defeat, Crane battled back with a pair of wins to get to the fifth-place bout, which he lost in a 13-7 decision. Ashburn also lost his opener, bouncing back with three straight wins before dropping the fifth-place contest.

Bear Horgan stood out amongst the team's competitors in the freshmen/sophomore division. The Mentor grad conquered the competition in the 184-pound bracket. Two teammates, Wills Bronson and Steven Shellenberger, joined him in placing at 184. Bronson tabbed third and Shellenberger snagged sixth. Lastly, Kyle Bizjak took third at 149.

The Blue Streaks will open Ohio Athletic Conference competition this week. John Carroll heads to Heidelberg on Wednesday for the first conference dual of the season.
